NISC Member News: Vermont Smart-Grid Project Modeled on Vermont Electric Coop Success
Assistant professor Paul Hines at the University of Vermont is focused on researching ways to improve the nation’s electrical grid, which is why he was invited early on to participate in discussions between the U.S. Department of Energy’s Sandia National Laboratories in New Mexico and Vermont leaders on a joint effort to help bring the grid into the 21st century.

NISC Member News: Central Rural Electric Joins Oklahoma State University on Energy Source Proclamation
OSU, along with the partnership of Central Rural Electric Cooperative, Stillwater Utilities Authority and C.H. Guernesy & Co, signed a Smart Energy Source Proclamation. The goals of this proclamation are energy solutions, engaging in research, and achieving sustainability. These energy solutions are supposed to be affordable, and not only that, but also "improve the quality of life," according to the proclamation.

NISC Member News: 19 S.C. Coops Help Send WWII Veterans on D.C. Tour
An unprecedented donation to Honor Flights of South Carolina will allow about 100 World War II veterans from South Carolina to tour Washington, D.C., and visit the World War II memorial on a one-day trip to the nation’s capital next year. The $60,000 donation by 19 of the state electric cooperatives will finance the Honor Flight trip, which includes a chartered plane, the tour and meals for the veterans.

Delaware lawmakers honored the Delaware Electric Cooperative Thursday night for saving members over $1 million through the Co-op Connections Card program. The program was first offered in 2008 and offers discounts to members on their prescriptions.
